Tesla Pickup Truck

Tesla's all-electric pickup truck

See All Stories

CEO Elon Musk has been talking about Tesla making an all-electric pickup truck for years now, but he said that third generation vehicles, the Model 3 and Model Y, were the priority for now. When revealing his ‘Master Plan Part Deux‘, Musk confirmed that Tesla has been working on a pickup truck but that the company is still in the ‘early stages of development’.

Nonetheless, he later added that we should expect an unveiling of the concept in “6 to 9 months”, which should end up being in early to mid-2017. It is expected to be in production within the next 3 to 4 years (2019-2020).

Additionally, Musk did say that Tesla will likely build an all-electric cargo van on the chassis that it is developing for its pickup truck.

Tesla unveiled ‘one more thing’ last night and everyone missed it – rumored to be pickup

Electrek’s Jamie Dow just eloquently laid down the argument that it’s OK that nothing was surprising about Tesla’s Model Y unveiling last night even though people were expecting a ‘one more thing’.

But Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that “there was something, but no one caught it” — it’s rumored to be the electric Tesla Pickup.

Tesla Pickup truck may be unveiled this summer, says CEO Elon Musk

During Tesla’s Q4 2018 investor conference call today, CEO Elon Musk stated that Tesla’s much-anticipated pickup truck may be ready for an unveil “this summer.”

Recently Musk stated that Tesla “might” unveil the prototype this coming year, but in today’s call, he seemed slightly more certain that an unveil could happen this summer.  But don’t buy your plane tickets yet, because nothing has actually been announced.

Tesla unveils first image of its electric pickup truck and it almost sounds like a joke

Between the unveiling of the Tesla Semi and the new Roadster, it’s almost easy to forget that Tesla also showed the first image of an electric pickup truck, which is based on the semi truck architecture.

The vehicle is so ridiculous that it almost sounds like a joke, which is actually not usual when it comes to Elon Musk’s announcements.

Tesla should unveil its electric pickup truck and open reservations right away for the sake of the US auto industry

This is an Electrek Opinion piece

When Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled his product plan last year, he revealed that Tesla had an electric pickup truck in early stages of development. Musk had already been talking about Tesla making an electric pickup for a few years now, but last month he said that the company is only going to reveal it “18 to 24 months” from now.

I think there’s an argument to be made for Tesla to unveil the pickup concept early and to start taking reservations even if production is still 2 to 3 years away.

Tesla has now 8 vehicle programs in the works: an updated look at its planned vehicle lineup

Site default logo image

Tesla’s automotive business is expanding quickly and we are not only talking about the Model 3. The Model 3 program will significantly increase its overall production capacity from roughly 2,000 vehicles per week to ~7,000 vehicles per week by the end of the year if all goes well, but Tesla is also expanding its automotive offering with now 8 vehicle programs at different stages of development.

CEO Elon Musk’s update yesterday gives us a better idea – albeit still vague – of the timeline for those programs.

Tesla’s 2017 product roadmap: Model 3, Powerwall 2, solar roof, Model Y, trucks, and more

In my opinion, Tesla is currently by far the most interesting tech company to follow and 2016 was its most exciting year yet. I think the highlights are clear: Model 3 unveil event, introduction of Autopilot 2.0 on all cars, which could enable fully self-driving capability, and finally the unveiling of the solar roof products.

While 2016 was a year of unveilings, 2017 will be a year of execution for Tesla. The company plans to bring all those promising products that it unveiled in 2016 to market, and it also plans to announce a few more.

5 new Tesla vehicles coming by the end of the decade

Tesla has long been a 1-car company. From when it first started production of the Roadster in 2008 to the end of the program and the start of Model S production in 2012 — and finally to last year when Tesla started delivering the Model X. The automaker has only been really producing two different models in volume for the past few months and it’s a significant accomplishment for a new automaker.

Other most recent American auto startups, like Fisker Automotive and DeLorean, all folded before they could bring a second car to market. Now Tesla plans to go from being a two-car company to have over half a dozen vehicles on the market by the end of the decade.

transit van

Since unveiling his ‘Master Plan Part Deux’ and Tesla’s future vehicle lineup earlier this month, Elon Musk has been quietly revealing more details about how Tesla plans to leverage its vehicle platforms to release more models. For example, he confirmed that the upcoming ‘Tesla Minibus’ will be built on the Model X chassis.

Now he reveals that Tesla will also likely build a cargo van on its upcoming pickup truck chassis.

‘Tesla Allterrain’ concept developed internally could help envision Tesla’s ‘unique’ pickup truck [Gallery]

Elon Musk revealed his “Master Plan Part 2” for Tesla last week and one of the biggest product to be officially announced, though Tesla officials already had expressed interest in releasing such a vehicle, was a ‘Tesla Pickup Truck’. We don’t have a timeline for the release or the unveiling of the vehicle, but Musk called it “a new kind of pickup”, which of course piqued our curiosity.

For better or worse (probably better), Tesla is not the kind of automaker to release concepts that are not already scheduled for production and therefore, it’s difficult to envision what their new products will look like…

Independent design renderings show what a Tesla pickup truck could look like

2016-Tesla-Model-U-sketches

Tesla’s current vehicle roadmap is fairly clear for the next few years. After unveiling the Model 3 later this month and launching it in 2017, Tesla is expected to launch a small crossover on the same platform called “Model Y”, then a next generation Roadster is expected to follow.

After the Roadster, things are not as clear, but a Tesla pickup truck is in the plans according to CEO Elon Musk.
