Elon Musk says a Tesla truck is a “logical step” for the company to do in the future [Video]

Today Elon Musk sat down with CNN’s Kristie Lu Stout to talk about Tesla and some of his other projects at the StartmeupHK tech forum in Hong Kong. You can watch the video in full below.

Musk is on a quick “media blitz” in China. He already gave a short interview to CNN yesterday, held a special event for Tesla owners in Hong Kong last night, and now this StartmeupHK event for entrepreneurs.

If like us you are an avid watcher of Musk’s interviews, you will probably not learn much from this one, but it is nonetheless a good interview with a focus on Tesla in China and Hong Kong.

The CEO highlighted that China’s highways and railroads are way better than in the US, but he also called attention to charging problems, which can be an issue in China and especially in a densely populated city like Hong Kong.

Even though he refused to elaborate on the subject, Musk said that an electric truck is likely in Tesla’s future:

“I think it is quite likely we will do a truck in the future. [Kristie asks for more details] No. I think it’s sort of logical thing for us to do in the future.”

Although he talked in the past about the possibility of Tesla making a pickup truck in the future, he has rarely commented on the subject since and a mention that it was still in his plans is certainly encouraging.

He also commented on the upcoming Model 3. Stout asked him directly what the vehicle would look like, but he refused to answer and instead offered “general characteristics”, which are mainly in line with what he said in the past:

“It’s meant to a slightly smaller version of the Model S and it wont have quite as many bells and whistles, but it will be at a much lower price point […] It will be a very compelling car at an affordable price.”

His phrasing here suggests that the Model 3 would look like the Model S, as a “smaller version” of the vehicle, but yet we might be looking too much into it.
