Electric motorcycle showdown: Harley-Davidson LiveWire vs. Zero SR/F

Zero SR/F vs Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycle

The Zero SR/F and the Harley-Davidson LiveWire are perhaps the two most premium American electric motorcycles on the road today. They come from two very different companies but share more similarities than you might expect.

I recently tested both a $21,495 SR/F and a $29,799 LiveWire simultaneously, putting them up against each other to determine which one was the rightful king of the American electric motorcycles.

The full story (and winner) of the Harley LiveWire vs. Tesla Model 3 electric drag race

Earlier this month we got a sneak peak at the first-ever drag race between a Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycle and Tesla Model 3 Performance electric car. The original video, shot from the stands, lacked any background info, and the winner of the photo finish wasn’t clear. Now we’ve got the full story behind the race (and we finally know the winner too!).

Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycle review: Expensive, yet awesome

harley-davidson livewire electric motorcycle

On a recent trip to Los Angeles, I got my hands on the new Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycle. Over my weeklong trip it became my ride everywhere. From winding down Mulholland Drive to cruising along Sunset Boulevard to weaving through traffic on the 101, the LiveWire and I got to know each other pretty well during our relatively short period of time together.

And during that time I learned a lot about the bike. It’s not perfect; the LiveWire surely has its deficiencies.

But it also has a number of redeeming qualities that make it seriously deserving of a second look. And that also gives me hope for how Harley-Davidson can play a leading role in the rapidly evolving electric motorcycle industry.

Behind the scenes look at Ewan McGregor’s 9,000-mile LiveWire electric motorcycle ride

harley-davidson livewire

Who says electric motorcycles can’t be used for long-distance touring rides? Not Ewan McGregor. The way he makes it sound, it’s almost easy – or at least can come with only minor difficulties.

The actor recently spilled the beans with some interesting behind the scenes info about his 9,000-mile ride from the southern tip of Argentina all the way up to Los Angeles.

[Update: Resumed] Harley-Davidson ‘temporarily’ pauses LiveWire electric motorcycle production after quality check

livewire

Harley-Davidson appears to have found some type of issue with the LiveWire, so the company has halted production of the electric motorcycle while it investigates.

Update: A Harley-Davidson Motor Company spokesperson tells us that LiveWire production and deliveries have resumed.

After completing rigorous analysis this week, we have resumed LiveWire production and deliveries. Customers may continue riding their LiveWire motorcycle and are able to charge the motorcycle through all methods. Temporarily stopping LiveWire production allowed us to confirm that the non-standard condition identified on one motorcycle was a singular occurrence. We take pride in our rigorous quality assurance measures and our drive to deliver the world’s best motorcycles.

We have confirmed that this was a singular occurrence on one motorcycle. Our rigorous analysis showed our strong quality assurance measures are working as designed. The findings also reaffirmed the strength of LiveWire’s technology and product design. Production has resumed and we are delivering to dealers.

First ride: Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycle screams raw power

Harley Davidson LiveWire review test ride

This weekend I had the opportunity to test ride Harley-Davidson’s much anticipated new electric motorcycle, the LiveWire. As excited as I was to finally get a chance to ride the LiveWire before its release, I didn’t have the highest of expectations. I thought the LiveWire would be a bike that looked better than it rode. But as it turns out, the LiveWire is a high power beast just waiting to be unleashed.

Harley-Davidson will bring to market its first all-electric bike ‘within 5 years’

livewire 15

Harley-Davidson unveiled its Livewire project two years ago almost to the day. While the all-electric concept with only ~60 miles of range was lacking compared to other models already available today, it showed that one of the most iconic motorcycle company, which is also obviously entrenched in internal combustion engines, is at least looking at other powertrain technologies.

At the time, Harley-Davidson made it clear that Livewire was only a concept (and good-looking one – see pictures below), but now the company confirms that it plans to bring its first electric bike to market “within the next five years”.
