Following reports out of China earlier this month, battery behemoth CATL has confirmed the production of its M3P batteries that will deliver next year. Although the chemistry may be similar, CATL has said the M3P batteries vary from Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate (LMFP) cells.

CATL, the world’s largest battery cell manufacturer and one of Tesla’s most critical suppliers, is scouting new factory sites in Mexico – likely to supply Tesla and other US electric automakers.

A recent report states that global battery conglomerate CATL is in the final stages of vetting potential sites to bring EV battery production to the US. One of the largest battery suppliers in the world, CATL, has signed an agreement with Tesla, as reported by Reuters.

The agreement lasts for two years from July 2020 to June 2022 and has no specified capacity restrictions.
