Tesla Referral Program

The latest round of Tesla’s quarterly referral program ended yesterday and Tesla surprised everyone by launching not one, but two new rounds of the program: a new quarterly round and a new annual round – something it hasn’t done before.

New buyers are still getting a $1,000 discount, but the program features new prizes for referrers. It also brings back the opportunity to win a Model S or X based on your performance in the program per region rather than only a random drawing like the last few rounds.

Tesla created new accessories and custom products to give out as prizes for the last few rounds of its referral program, which offers a $1,000 discount to new buyers using a referral code from a current owner, who in turn receives prizes depending on the number of referrals they get.

The automaker was about two rounds (6 months) of the program behind in giving out some of the prizes, but they’ve finally started shipping and the biggest prizes are still to come.

We can all agree that walking into a Tesla store is a lot different from walking into a traditional dealership. From the Apple-like store design, the, generally, passionate representatives, and the overall environment within the shop, it is just a widely unique car buying experience that differs from all others. Another prominent theme with Tesla has been the ‘no haggle’ sales interaction that customers have, mostly, enjoyed for the peace of mind that they received knowing that they weren’t being ‘cheated.’ But as of late, quite a few reports from customers have surfaced, possibly, signaling that the company is slowly moving away from a fully straightforward sales experience.

Earlier today, we reported on Tesla quickly renewing the referral program for the fifth round with again a $1,000 discount on both the Model S and X, but at the time, Tesla had yet to reveal the prizes for the referrers.

Now the company released the list and there’s no big surprise. The small prizes are similar, the automaker will still raffle a Model X P90D with Ludicrous mode, but most interestingly, the company refers to an upcoming ‘Tesla unveiling event’ without specifying for what product.

Yesterday we reported on Tesla reactivating the referral links of Model S and X owners for another round of its referral program. Today, the automaker released the details and the prizes for referrers. Tesla confirmed that the program begins today May 30 and will run until July 15, 2016.

Tesla has been tuning its referral program for close to a year now. The automaker went through 3 rounds with different rules, rewards and discounts. The last round ended in mid-April and the company hasn’t updated the program until now.

This weekend Tesla reactivated the referral links and now a new offer of $1,000 in credit is available through the new referral program with both Model S and X orders.

Tesla quietly announced early this morning its third referral program with a chance to win a Model X P90D and a tour of the SpaceX headquarters in Los Angeles. Tesla’s referral program returns after a two-month break and very successful two initial competitions.

The company is trying something new with the latest version of the program, which will not really be a competition this time.
