Japanese automakers Toyota, Honda, and Nissan, are being called out again for their lack of progress with battery electric vehicles and decarbonization efforts. Greenpeace, a nonprofit organization promoting a sustainable future, released a new study finding that Japanese automakers lag behind their peers.

After standing by for the better part of the year and watching other automakers aggressively convert their fleets to electric, Honda seems to be having an epiphany. Honda is forming a new partnership with materials trading company, Hanwa, to source critical EV battery materials.

Although many Japanese automakers are falling behind in the EV race, Honda is taking a big step today to solidify its place in the future of automobiles. Honda announced Monday that it will be forming a new joint venture with LG Energy Solution to build EV batteries in the US.
