One of the most disappointing thing about the launch of the e-tron yesterday was that Audi is not making it immediately available despite announcing the start of production earlier this month.
Instead, Audi is following Tesla with the reservation model that requires a $1,000 refundable deposit.
With a reservation, you at least get to see all the options and pricing information in the online configurator.
The good news is that you still get a fairly well-equipped car with the base version starting at $74,800 before incentive in the US.
Audi lists the standard feature in the base e-tron, which is weirdly named ‘Premium Plus’:
- Audi pre sense city & side assist
- Matrix design LED headlights
- Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium sound system
- Heated & ventilated front seats
- MMI® Navigation with Virtual Cockpit Plus
- Topview camera with virtual 3D
The base version comes standard with the 20″ 5-spoke design wheels and based on the online configurator, they cannot be changed with the ‘Premium Plus’ version:
That’s a bummer because the 21″ turbine wheels are arguably much better looking and they are only a $1,500 upgrade, but the catch is that you need to order the Prestige package first, which starts at $81,800.

Audi justifies the $7,000 difference between the two packages (before the different wheels) with the following features:
- Driver Assistance Package
- Head up display
- Individual Contour seats with Valcona leather
- Massage function for front seats
- Air quality package – Ionizer and fragrance
- Power door closers
As for the paint colors, there are plenty of options. Only black is standard, but all the other options are offered at a reasonable $595 premium:
All the interior options are standard. The seats are available in black, brown or beige with different design accents throughout the interior.
Audi is also bringing some of its regular packages offered in other SUVs to the new electric e-tron, including a $650 towing package (4,000 lbs. towing capacity), a $900 Cold Weather package, which consists of “enhanced cabin and battery pre-conditioning, and integrated windshield wiper washer jets.”
