Watch Tesla Model 3 prototype being chased around Palo Alto during testing

It has been a few weeks since a Tesla Model 3 release candidate has been spotted testing in the wild and just as we couldn’t go any longer without a fix, a reader sent great footage of the white Model 3 prototype being tested around Palo Alto.

A lot of people have been hunting around Tesla’s HQ to get spy shots of the Model 3 prototypes since Tesla started testing its release candidates on public roads in March.

But some are willing to go a step further, like Greg Forrest, a Model 3 reservation holder, who spotted the white Model 3 release candidate and chased it around to bring us a lot of footage of the car during testing.

Greg spotted the car coming out of Tesla’s HQ in Palo Alto and managed to follow it around for about 5 minutes before losing it.

He told Electrek that he had difficulty keeping up with the Model 3 in his Toyota Corolla rental, but he captured a few quick videos, which we put together in a single video:

It looks like it’s the same white release candidate as the one spotted earlier this month. It seems to still have some of the same panel gaps – though less visible than on the last sighting.

As usual, a reminder that the Model 3 release candidates being tested publicly are at different stages of readiness and therefore, it’s not necessarily representative of the production version.

It’s still nice to see the vehicle driving around ahead of the launch planned for July.

Earlier this month, Tesla gave an update on the Model 3 production plan. It confirmed that they are still on track for the production of 5,000 units per week by the end of the year and 10,000 units per week in 2018.

They also confirmed that they received and installed their Schuler press for the Model 3 production line and they think that they will have “sufficient time to install and tune die sets ahead of volume production.”
