Earlier today, we reported on Tesla releasing the 8.1 software update and the focus is undeniably on improving the Autopilot system on the new hardware, but there are also a few improvements for all vehicles whether they have Autopilot or not.

11 days ago, Elon Musk said that Tesla’s highly anticipated 8.1 software update will come in “about 10 days”. Today, he updated the ETA to next “Tuesday-Wednesday”, but owners don’t have their hopes up since the update has been delayed on several occasions since last December.
What is still unclear is if the update will also bring the second generation Autopilot to feature parity with the first generation Autopilot or if it will only be UI updates for the entire fleet.

Tesla owners without Autopilot have been somewhat neglected in term of software updates since the introduction of the second generation Autopilot. Tesla’s software team has been focused on bringing the new system to parity with the first generation Autopilot’s features.
The 8.1 update is expected to be the next big step for all Tesla owners, Autopilot or not, but it has been pushed on a few occasions. CEO Elon Musk now says that it is coming in “10 days or so”.

Tesla’s version 8.1 software update has been the most anticipated update to Tesla’s operating system for the past 6 months. It was first supposed to come out in late December, but the automaker’s software team has been focusing on fixes for the 8.0 update.
The update was later delayed to late January and it is now late again.
