All-electric Subaru Evoltis, with oddball design, to be unveiled in 2021

In a Tokyo press conference in January 2020, Subaru showed the first design study for a pure-electric crossover to be developed with Toyota. At the time, Auto News said it wasn’t going into production until 2025. New reports from Japan now peg an unveiling for 2021 while confirming the name of the vehicle as “Evoltis.”

A Subaru-Toyota co-developed electric SUV is targeted for (ahem) 2025

In a Tokyo press conference today, Subaru outlined its long-term plans for technology development and reducing carbon emissions. The company will continue to “evolve” core technologies, like its Boxer internal-combustion engines. Reuters also reports that Subaru is strengthening ties with Toyota on developing new technologies. That could result in a new co-developed all-electric SUV ­– but not until 2025.

Subaru unveils new car platform to support electric vehicles [Gallery]

Subaru and its parent company Fuji unveiled a new car platform this week. All of its future models will be built on it with the first one being the next Impreza, which will go on sale later this year.

Interestingly, the automaker also confirmed that the new platform is built to support hybrid and all-electric vehicles for future models.
