Tesla buyers now have access to Ontario’s generous $14,000 EV incentive

Ontario’s government is offering one of the most generous direct electric vehicle incentive – between $6,000 and $14,000 to support the purchase or lease of eligible battery-electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

Tesla buyers had no access to this full incentive since cars with MSRPs between $75,000 and $150,000 were capped at a $3,000 incentive. The government lifted the cap this week and lowered the entry price of the Model S and X in Canada in the process.

Ontario is increasing its EV incentives up to $10,000 per vehicle, but not for Tesla

The Ontario Government announced this week an update to its incentive program to promote electric vehicles. Premier Kathleen Wynne made the announcement yesterday at WaterPark Place in Toronto.

The initiative builds on the province’s program first launched in 2010 and increases the range of incentives from $5,000 – $8,500 to $6,000 – $10,000 per vehicle, but not without a few exceptions.

Ontario opens its roads to self-driving car testing, Google, Tesla obvious candidates

Starting on January 1st, Ontario will become the first province in Canada to open its roads to testing of automated vehicles, according to a recent report (via CBC). The province will allow testing of self-driving cars (Google has been a pioneer in the space with both its Lexus models and its smaller, prototype EVs), as well as “related technologies,” starting on January 1st 2016…
