Report: Volkswagen’s Scout brand taps Magna Steyr to develop its electric truck, SUV

A recent report out of Austria states that local contract manufacturer Magna Steyr has been chosen by Volkswagen’s new all-electric truck brand Scout, to develop the latter’s first wave of vehicles. The order is reportedly worth nearly $500 million – potentially Magna Steyr’s biggest development contract ever.

However, thanks to Magna International’s new EtelligentTerrain EV powertrain system, 4WD combustion vehicles like Jeeps will soon be able to tear up muddy terrain without any emissions. Magna to expand five facilities plus a new battery enclosure plant to support F-150 Lightning

Contract manufacturer Magna International shared plans to invest over $470 million to expand its existing operations across Ontario, Canada, expecting to create over 1,000 new jobs. In addition to the expansion of five of its current facilities in Canada, Magna will lease a battery enclosure plant to support the production of the Ford F-150 Lightning and future EVs from other OEMS.

Contract manufacturing superpower Magna International announced it is investing over $500 million to erect two new manufacturing facilities and expand a third in the state of Michigan. The new and expanded Magna facilities will develop components specifically for the growing market of electric vehicles and are expected to create over 1,500 new jobs in Michigan.

Magna pilots autonomous pizza delivery robot in quest to expand presence in micromobility

During the North American International Auto Show today in Detroit, Michigan, mobility tech company Magna International shared its progress of a novel last-mile delivery robot designed for urban environments. The company has been piloting the fully autonomous three-wheeled robot in Detroit since March, where it has been transporting pizzas to nearby customers. The pilot program follows two additional mobility programs the contract manufacturer is already exploring.

Global contract manufacturer Magna International has agreed to produce and scale a fleet of autonomous delivery robots for silicon valley-based robotics company Cartken. The robots are being built at a Magna facility in Michigan and will soon offer autonomous last-mile deliveries to businesses around the world.

During a media day for Magna International’s “Tech Week,” we got to visit the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan, to test drive some of the contract manufacturer’s electrified tech. This included a GMC Sierra 2500 converted to a BEV using Magna’s Etelligent Force 4WD powertrain. With it, we were able experience the system’s 14,500 lb towing capacity and drive some other unique EVs too.

LG Magna ePowertrain, a recently launched joint venture between LG Electronics and Magna International, has broken ground on a new facility in Mexico, the JV’s first production footprint in North America. Fisker and Magna sign long-term agreement, including production of Ocean SUV in fall 2022

In a recent announcement, Fisker and Magna International Inc. have finalized a long-term manufacturing agreement. The binding agreement coincides with previous agreements between both parties regarding EV platform sharing and ADAS systems. As part of the latest agreement, Magna will produce Fisker’s upcoming electric Ocean SUV in November 2022.

REE Automotive has announced a “strategic collaboration” with Magna International, which will allow both companies to explore the possibilities of fully modular electric vehicles (MEVs) and bring them to market. According to a press release, these MEVs will be based around the REEcorner technology and will don a “Powered by REE” brand.

Watch a Tesla Model S prototype with 3 electric motors drift on snow and wet pavement

Major automotive suppliers are trying to keep up with the industry’s transition to electric propulsion. Bosch recently said that it is looking to invest in battery production and now Magna plans to expand its electric powertrain offering.

Earlier this year, they built a Tesla Model S prototype with 3 motors.

Now they plan to bring it to CES to showcase their latest electric motor technology and released a cool video of some of the tests performed on the vehicle.
