Each week I dig around in the bottom of the barrel of China’s weirdest shopping site, dragging to the surface a funky electric vehicle to laugh either with and/or at. They’re usually fairly underpowered things, coasting by on their good looks and charm. But this week, we’ve got the opposite: a vehicle so ugly that not even its mother could love it but that can haul so much that it doesn’t even care.

Monarch Tractor lands $3M to accelerate electric farm equipment that supplies energy back to grid

Fully-electric, autonomous farm equipment manufacturer Monarch Tractor has announced that the company, alongside its group partners have been awarded a grant of $3 million from the California Energy Commission to accelerate the electrification of agricultural equipment. Furthermore, the companies will demonstrate bi-directional capabilities in the farming equipment to support local electrical grids during power outages brought on by more frequent wildfires.

Foxconn to manufacture electric tractors for Monarch at newly acquired Lordstown facility

Foxconn has signed its first contract manufacturing agreement since acquiring a Ohio facility from Lordstown Motors. In addition to building EVs for Lordstown and Fisker Inc., Foxconn will now also be manufacturing advanced, driver optional electric tractors and battery packs for Monarch Tractors.

Solectrac ramps up production to meet growing demand for electric tractors

Electric tractor developer Solectrac has announced a partnership with Nolan Manufacturing to bolster its electric traction production to meet increasing demand from customers. The partnership includes a 10,000-square-foot facility in North Carolina to support Solectrac’s east coast customers.

Gridtractor launches infrastructure tool for zero-emission farming, electric tractors

A new zero-emission agricultural subsidiary Gridtractor officially launched today as a tool to develop, implement, and maintain fleet electrification services for farms utilizing electric tractors and heavy farming equipment. Gridtractor looks to help farmers integrate electric charging and vehicle to grid (V2G) technology into their agricultural operations, to help strengthen their local power grid while simultaneously saving significant on the cost of fuel.

Solectrac launches new 70 HP, 60 kWh electric tractor for $75,000

Electric tractor developer Solectrac has announced that its e70N tractor is now available for sale. Solectrac recently delivered the 70-horsepower, diesel-equivalent tractors to three farms in Northern California as part of a grant from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s Funding Agriculture Replacement Measures for Emission Reductions Demonstration Program (FARMER).

Solectrac donates electric tractor to Jack Johnson’s nonprofit in Hawaii

Electric tractor manufacturer Solectrac announced it has delivered its first Compact Electric Tractor (CET) in Oahu, Hawaii. The fully-electric tractor was donated to the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by musician Jack Johnson and his wife, Kim, that supports environmental education in the schools and communities of Hawaii.

Porsche’s all-electric ‘Mission E tractor’ shouldn’t be an April fools joke

For April fools yesterday, Porsche sent out a press release unveiling the all-electric ‘Mission E tractor’ – a tractor built by leveraging the Mission E’s electric powertrain.

The German automaker quickly said that it was a joke and “of course, the Mission E tractor will not be built,” but it’s not clear what is funny about it since someone should actually build that tractor.
