Tesla fired most employees in its only service center in Calgary for being ‘inappropriate’. It sent local owners in a panic, but the automaker says that it will keep the location open.
Last week, an employee of the service center in Calgary, Tesla’s only service location in the province, sent an email to the local Tesla Owners Club to announce that he and the entire service staff of the service center have been fired:
“I have volunteered for the unfortunate task to let you all know that as of today myself and all members of the Tesla Calgary Service department have been terminated effective immediately. We had no warning of this, and felt that we owed it to you all to let you know.”
The employee in question claimed to be sending the email on behalf of the entire “former Tesla Calgary Service team”.
In the context of Tesla closing stores, including the one in Calgary, it sent local Tesla owners in a panic since the next closest Tesla service center is hundreds of miles away in Vancouver, but Tesla didn’t announce the closing of any service center.
The automaker had actually announced that it would expand its service operations.
Many owners reached out to Electrek and in turn, we contacted Tesla to know what is happening at the service center.
A spokesperson for the automaker told Electrek that they fired “several members of the Calgary service team” after an investigation into their behaviors on the job:
“Several members of the Calgary service team were terminated following an investigation into an employee complaint which confirmed repeated inappropriate exchanges between colleagues. This is in violation of our workplace policies and behavior we will not tolerate at Tesla.”
Tesla didn’t confirm the nature of the “inappropriate exchanges”, but a source familiar with the matter said there were inappropriate texts and pictures shared by employees.
The automaker confirmed to Electrek that they plan to keep the Calgary service center open and they will fill the several positions that were occupied by terminated employees.
