With several new electric vehicles hitting the market, the production EV record at the Laguna Seca race track has changed hands quite a few times and now it’s again going to Cameron Rogers in a Tesla Model 3 Performance.
We previously reported on Rogers racing a standard Model 3 RWD with and without mods at Laguna race track and he did a record lap at the track with his new Model 3 Performance in September.
The record changed hands quite a few times in recent months.
Jaguar announced that their I-Pace set a “production EV lap record” at the track and funnily enough, Lucid’s development team beat the record with a Tesla Model S P100D.
The EV startup later beat the record with their own vehicle, the Lucid Air, but the vehicle is not considered a production vehicle.
So a Model S P100D driven by Tesla’s development team ended taking the Laguna Seca production EV record after all.
But now, Rogers is taking the record again with a Tesla Model 3 Performance by beating his previous best time with a 1:41.2 lap:
But to be fair, while the vehicle can be considered a “production vehicle”, it did get a suspension upgrade from Mountain Pass Performance.
They described the upgrade when they set the fastest time at Global Attack event on track mode, but they got disqualified for ‘being electric’.
Nonetheless, the performance is extremely impressive.
Rogers told Electrek that he even managed to beat some “track-prepared BMW M3’s”:
“It was faster than a number of track-prepared BMW M3’s, some of which came on a trailer and aren’t street vehicles. Our Model 3 is 100% street-comfortable, and of course passes smog.”
Here are a few pictures from Rogers’ track day, including of the M3s going back home defeated:
