Urban Drivestyle made a name for itself last year when it crowdfunded a Super 73-styled electric fat bike and delivered it to over 1,500 customers. Now the company is back again with a smaller but just as innovative electric bicycle.
The UMi 250 is Urban Drivestyle’s new electric folding bicycle designed with commuters and daily riders in mind.
The folding e-bike is powered by a 250 W front hub motor and 36V, 10.4 Ah Li-ion battery hidden inside the frame. Eagle-eyed readers might even notice a resemblance to the popular Xiaomi Mi Qicycle.
The UMi 250 is limited to a top speed between 25-40 km/h (15-25 mph) depending on the country, which helps it conform to various local e-bike laws. A hand throttle is also available for throttle-legal countries. For others, you’re stuck with pedal assist modes only.
Urban Drivestyle claims that the bike has a maximum range of 50-70 km (31-43 mi), but that is likely in the lowest power mode. Don’t expect to reach 40+ miles at full throttle.
Among the interesting features included in the UMi 250 are head and taillights built directly into the frame, GPS location services for anti-theft, vertical parking ability due to the wheeled rear rack, a handlebar that folds both at the frame and at the grips, USB charging, and an integrated Amsterdam-style locking rear wheel.
A complete list of specs can be found on the company’s website.
Urban Drivestyle will be taking pre-orders for the UMi 250 soon on Indiegogo, where the introductory price will be set at $799.
While this bike does look promising, we hope to get the chance to try it out ourselves for an in-depth review before we believe all the nice-sounding specs.
On the bright side, while we are normally hesitant about Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns, Urban Drivestyle has a proven track record of delivering on their promises. “Buyer beware” still applies here, as it does with all crowdfunding campaigns, but it’s nice to know that the company has already successfully fulfilled previous crowdfunding orders.
