Electrify America opens another ultra-fast EV charger and announces new partner for locations

Electrify America is making a ton of moves lately in the deployment of its upcoming large network of electric vehicle charging stations in the US.

The Volkswagen subsidiary has now deployed a second and ultra-fast EV charger and announced a new partner for locations: Simon.

Electrify America is Volkswagen’s EV infrastructure startup born out of the German automaker’s $2 billion settlements with California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over its use of emission test cheating devices in its diesel vehicles.

They have to use the money to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and the main way is the expansion of charging infrastructure.

The company plans to deploy more than 2,000 chargers across 484 sites in 17 metropolitan areas and on highways in 39 states as part of the first “cycle of investment.”

Now the second one of those stations has opened at the Brugh’s Mill Country Store located along Interstate 81 about 20 miles north of Roanoke in Virginia:

Last month, the company unveiled their charging stations with new suppliers and it includes options with charging capacities up to 350 kW, like this one in Virginia.

Furthermore, Electrify America announced this week that it is partnering with Simon, owners of hundreds of shopping and entertainment centers, to install their charging stations “at more than 30 Simon centers throughout the U.S. including sites across Simon’s Malls, The Mills™ and Premium Outlets.”

Brendan Jones, Chief Operating Officer of Electrify America, commented:

“Simon operates some of the most popular shopping destinations in the U.S. EV owners are driving the future in personal transportation, and having Electrify America’s state-of-the-art charging stations will serve Simon’s customers of today, and tomorrow, by providing the latest technology available.”

The announcement follows similar partnerships with Walmart and Target to deploy their charging stations.

Earlier this month, Electrify America also unveiled a map of planned charging stations for its massive network – giving us a better idea of what the network will look like.
