Elon Musk’s Boring Company announces ‘partnership’ with LA Metro for its tunnel network under Los Angeles

Elon Musk’s Boring Company is moving forward with its plan to create a network of tunnels under Los Angeles that will house a new electric transportation system called ‘Loop’.

It’s a massive infrastructure project and not everyone is on board, but the company apparently found a new partner: LA Metro.

LA Metro is the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, an agency that operates public transportation for the County of Los Angeles.

The agency apparently met with The Boring Company just over two weeks ago and they disclosed it in a tweet that went under the radar.

But now Elon Musk retweeted it and added that he is “excited” for his startup to partner with the transit agency:

LA Metro was apparently concerned about the Boring Company’s latest plan for a tunnel in West Los Angeles potentially interfering with their local rail system, but now they say that they will partner with the startup going forward.

There’s no detail on the nature of the partnership.

This new Boring Company tunnel was announced last month and will serve as a new full proof-of-concept for the company.

According to the city, the proposed tunnel would begin with the entry/exit point at 2352-6 Sepulveda Boulevard, north of West Pico Boulevard, in West Los Angeles. The tunnel would run southward under Sepulveda Blvd. and would end, without surfacing, below the vicinity of the intersection of Sepulveda Blvd. and Washington Boulevard in Culver City.

The announcement comes just as Musk announced that he wants to combine the Boring Company’s Hyperloop technology and tunnels with SpaceX’s rockets to get anywhere on earth in less than an hour.

It could include a hyperloop system linked to a new spaceport in Los Angeles.

Musk is about to do a town hall meeting about the company’s plans in the city and we should know more after – or it’s just an elaborate plot for Musk to sell his new Boring Company candy:
