As we reported yesterday, Tesla started the Model 3 launch in Canada this week and today, the first invitations to configure were sent out to current Tesla owners.
It gives us our first look at the Tesla Model 3 Canadian configurator with the price structure and availability.
I got my invite today and it says that if I place an order right now for a Model 3 with Long Range battery pack and rear-wheel drive powertrain, I can get a delivery within “4 to 8 weeks.”
As we reported yesterday, the starting price in Canada is going to be $45,600 CAD for the yet-to-be-available Standard battery pack, but the Long Range pack adds $11,900 CAD ($9,212 USD) and the “premium package” adds $6,600 CAD ($5,100 USD) for a new base price of $64,100 CAD ($49,622 USD) – or about the same is it is in the US after the exchange rate.

Personally, I’ll be waiting for the dual motor option, which shows “mid-2018” in the configurator.
The fact that deliveries have a similar timeline as the one in the US is a good sign that either Tesla’s Model 3 production is increasing or they plan to focus on Canadian deliveries and slow down US deliveries to push the point at which they reach the 200,000 US delivery threshold for the federal tax credit phase-out.
As for the Canadian pricing structure, I’m glad that it is tracking very close to the US prices after the exchange rate, which wasn’t always the case with the Model S and Model X though it has been closer over the last year.
Now I’m anxiously waiting for the availability of the Dual Motor option, which I expect is going to happen soon. I’d also like a confirmation of the pricing of the option, which I hope is going to be $5,000 CAD or less.
If it’s $5,000, it would bring my total to $75,700 before taxes and before Quebec’s $8,000 EV incentive.
