EGEB: Climate change rap, Oxford PV gets $15M for perovskite factory, more

Electrek Green Energy Brief: A daily technical, financial, and political review/analysis of important green energy news. Featured Image Source.

Oxford PV granted financing for perovskite serial production – Oxford PV received an EU bank financing of €15m, to support the transfer of its disruptive perovskite on silicon tandem solar cell technology from lab scale to commercialisation. Plus “The company has demonstrated the necessary parameters in efficiency and stability on its perovskite photovoltaic technology, to engage commercially with major industry players and play a key role in enhancing solar energy supply in the future.” Two items – 1. Perovskite is moving from a lab to a commercial facility. That’s pretty cool. 2. From the quote – ‘necessary parameters in efficiency and stability’ – most perovskite push back has been due to it quickly degrading in sunlight and water. If stability is meeting requirements – then perovskite is getting real.

Rapper’s Lyrics about Climate Change Are Smart – The Rap Guide to Climate Chaos – Scientists are telling us that we’re standing on a precipice; And we have to convert the global economy and make it emission-less; And those emissions are caused by every single one of our jobs; Every one of us contributing carbon emissions to the smog – I’ve seen this guy in person, Orlando 2015 at the Fringe show. He rapped about religion then – was cool to listen to him, I actually bought a bunch of his MP3s. Now, it looks like I’m going to have to buy the first album I’ve bought in a long while.

‘Plant Factories’ Churn Out Clean Food in China’s Dirty Cities – Not a clean energy post, but something I feel is very close to the subject. That China has to move indoors to make food – that’s terrible. That many people globally are pushing this shipping container food production model – very intriguing. If we can figure out how to make our food – meat and vegetables – in more sustainable ways, we’ll start to attack a full 1/4 of our global emissions. This one will be tough though – how do you make a green cow?

State’s (Indiana) new solar panel law goes into effect Monday – Under the new law, Biggs said customers who install solar panels after December 31st 2017 would get the credit, at current rates, for just the next 15 years. If you already have solar panels, or install them before year’s end, he says you are grandfathered in for 30 years. So, Indiana residents will get 15 years of net metering versus 30 years. For all the hubbub I heard in the news about this state’s solar laws changing, I’m surprised its only net metering contract length that is changing. – and I think this quote from the article is true: “I think the legislation has done us a favor, because it got more people talking about it.”

Coal and gas generation decreased in 2017. How’s that folks? A lot of the decreases in CO2 by the USA has been replacing coal with gas, now gas is also decreasing. Good work – keep pushing.
