Energica unveils its latest electric motorcycle: Eva EsseEsse9

With the EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan this week, we are seeing a lot of new electric motorcycles.

After the new Evoke Urban Classic and KTM’s new 2018 Freeride E-XC electric motocross bike, now Energica unveils its third model: Eva EsseEsse9.

The Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer has so far been known for its supersport all-electric motorcycles but the new Eva EsseEsse9 takes the same electric powertrain and delivers it in a “old school” design.

The company describes the motorcycle:

“The “old school” Energica is therefore a brave, enthusiastic and heartful motorcycle on which the structural components are on sight. Inspired by the ancient motorcycles, Eva EsseEsse9 is equipped with a classic soft-touch seat and a full LED headlight with DRL: an oval light embedded in a precious aluminum machined crown.”

Like its other electric motorcycles, the Eva EsseEsse9 is equipped with a 80 kW Permanent Magnet AC electric motor and a 11.7 kWh battery pack for “up to 150 km” (93 miles) of combined highway and city driving range and a top speed of 125 mph (200 km/h).

They says that the range can be pushed to 125 miles (200 km) when using the ECO mode, but you lose some performance, which is what Energica is going for. They even confirmed that the vehicle will also be offered with a new more powerful 107 kW electric motor.

Their bikes can also all accept CCS DC fast-charging for a 0 to 85% charge in just 30 minutes.

Energica’s lineup starts at a eye-watering € 22,000 (~$25,000 USD) in Europe. The company recently entered the US market for about the same price as the bikes are offered in the company’s home market.

The company has been trying to market itself as the “Tesla of motorcycles” by first going by the higher-end of the market:

In the US, they will be competing with the high-end of Zero Motorcycles’ lineup, which is a little more extensive than what Energica has to offer right now.

At the lower-end of the market, there’s still a lot of room for competition and it looks like Evoke is going to try to fill the spot.
