Nissan unveils sexier all-electric next-gen Leaf with Nismo upgrade

Now that we have finally seen the new Nissan Leaf 2018 from every imaginable angle, we can say that it’s definitely a significant design improvement over the original Leaf.

But for those who want a sexier version of the all-electric car, Nissan has been planning something more.

The Japanese automaker unveiled today a next-gen Leaf Nismo concept car that they will display at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show later this month.

They wrote about the concept in a press release:

“The NISMO Concept version of the new LEAF has a sporty new exterior designed by NISMO, Nissan’s motorsports and in-house tuning division. The application of NISMO racing technology to the car’s body results in enhanced aerodynamic performance and less lift, without sacrificing the LEAF’s excellent drag coefficient. The black interior features NISMO’s signature red accents, creating an exciting, high-performance feel.

On the road, the LEAF NISMO Concept offers a truly exciting drive. This is thanks to a sport-tuned suspension and high-performance tires, not to mention a custom-tuned computer that delivers instant acceleration at all speeds. The LEAF NISMO Concept combines the environmentally friendly character of an electric car with the exciting driving experience that’s always been a hallmark of the NISMO brand.”

Here are a few pictures that they released ahead of the show:

Electrek’s Take

Definetly a step up from the standard 2018 version, but again, it’s only a concept.

While the possibility is exciting, it’s not the first time that Nissan unveiled a Nismo pack for the Leaf, but it didn’t end up being available.

They unveiled the Leaf Nismo RC concept in 2011 and not much came of it – though Nissan released a special-edition ‘Leaf Aero Style’ just for the Japanese market that was inspired by Nismo.

This concept is similar and hopefully, they make more widely available. Nissan design chief Alfonso Albaisa said last month that they were considering it. We will see.
