Bollinger unveils design of 4-door version of its upcoming all-electric truck

After unveiling the first prototype of its all-electric truck, the B1, New York-based startup Bollinger Motors is now unveiling a 4-door version of the vehicle.

The new design sketch is pictured above.

Robert Bollinger, Designer and CEO of Bollinger Motors, said:

“We always wanted to make a 4-Door version of the B1. And our assistant designer Ross Compton and I developed a great sketch. The vehicle still has great proportions and it’s amazing off-road capabilities remain intact since we only had to stretch the chassis by 9 inches”

The new overall vehicle length is 159 inches and new wheelbase of 114 inches. It results in an additional 6 cu. ft. of cargo volume for a total of 101 cu. ft.

The powertrain options will remain the same with two battery pack options available, 60 kWh and 100 kWh, for 120 miles and 200 miles in range.

Bollinger plans to make both the 2-door and 4-door versions available at launch.

During the unveiling of the prototype in July, the company said that it is currently working with third-party manufacturers and it aims to get to production within 19 months. More concrete announcements are expected in the coming months.

Electrek’s Take

We are actually pretty excited about what Bollinger is working on. While EV enthusiasts haven’t had a lot of luck with EV products coming out of startups lately, Bollinger’s minimalist approach could potentially pay off.

By addressing the market of off/on-road utility vehicles, which is new for electric vehicles, and keeping the design simple, they could actually manage to make a small series production with the right partners.

It also doesn’t hurt that the truck looks badass:

Now they haven’t released pricing information yet, but we expect the vehicle to be on the expensive side. If they can keep the price somewhat reasonable despite the large 60 kWh and 100 kWh battery packs and manage to make it easily serviceable for DIY people, they might have an interesting vehicle program on their hands.
