Watch how Rimac built an all-electric 1.1 MW monster racecar in just 4 months

During the 2015 and 2016 editions of the famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Challenge, Croatian electric hypercar maker Rimac partnered with Team APEV and MONSTER SPORT, led by the racing legend Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima, to build a 1.1 MW all-electric racecar.

Today, they released a really interesting video that chronicles the journey of building and racing that car.

From the time they received the chassis, they had only 4 months to “design, develop, manufacture, set-up and test the vehicle”.

The video goes into the development in details and shows how they ended up improving some of their own technologies for the Concept_One through the development process.

For example, they used the Concept_One’s torque vectoring system in the vehicle and during tests with Tajima, who requires a much more responsive steering than the smoother feel of a road-legal car like the Concept_One, they realized that they could use the improvements made to the system for the race in the actual consumer version of their electric hypercar.

They also recall moments like when the vehicle lost its mechanical brakes at a critical moment during the race, but Tajima still managed to finish second by only using the regenerative braking.

Here you can watch it in full – it’s worth the time:

Rimac is expanding these days. After announcing that it will build the battery packs for Aston Martin’s upcoming new hypercar, the company also unveiled an upgraded version of the Concept_One with a new 90 kWh battery pack and 900 kW of power output.
