A billboard shows up near Tesla Factory asking Elon Musk to ‘dump Trump’

A billboard with an interesting message appeared near Tesla’s Fremont factory last week. Someone anonymously paid for the signage in an attempt to tell Tesla CEO Elon Musk to “Dump Trump”.

The message is now being reported just as Musk joined President Trump to talk about infrastructure with other business leaders at the White House yesterday.

SiliconValley.com tried unsuccessfully to find the author of the message:

“The advertisement carries a disclaimer that the message does not reflect the views of the billboard’s owner, Clear Channel Outdoor. The advertising company charges about $5,000 per month for a spot on a digital display board in the Bay Area, depending on how many ads share the digital space. Efforts to reach the ad’s sponsor through Clear Channel Outdoor were unsuccessful. A Clear Channel spokesman declined to comment on the contents of the billboard. A Tesla spokesman referred to Musk’s earlier comments about his role on the president’s advisory board.”

It comes just after Musk experienced a backlash from some fans and Model 3 reservation holders over his link to the administration.

Some were disappointed that Musk would accept to work with the controversial administration which has been hell-bent on rolling back environmental programs that could potentially slow down the deployment of renewable energy, which would be against Tesla’s mission.

Though Musk already released a statement about why he thinks his current role will “serve the greater good” and I doubt a billboard message will change his mind:

“In December, I agreed to join the Presidential Advisory Forum to provide feedback on issues that I think are important for our country and the world. In tomorrow’s meeting, I and others will express our objections to the recent executive order on immigration and offer suggestions for changes to the policy.

Advisory councils simply provide advice and attending does not mean that I agree with actions by the Administration. My goals are to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy and to help make humanity a multi-planet civilization, a consequence of which will be the creation of hundreds of thousands of jobs and a more inspiring future for all. I understand the perspective of those who object to my attending this meeting, but I believe at this time that engaging on critical issues will on balance serve the greater good.”
