Tesla vehicles will shuttle celebrities to the Oscars in Morgan Freeman’s new all-Tesla limo service

The 89th Academy Awards will take place this Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, and as usual, celebrities are expected to arrive on the red carpet in limousines and luxurious vehicles.

Tesla vehicles, both the Model S and X, could be the most popular among them this year thanks to a new all-Tesla limo service financed by Morgan Freeman.

We have already reported on some black car and limo services converting their fleets to Tesla vehicles, but the trend is apparently becoming more popular and even actor Morgan Freeman, who is a long-time Tesla investor and Model S owner, invested in such a service founded by his friend.

In September 2016, Freeman disclosed that he is “huge fan” of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and invested in his company:

“I own Tesla. I’m a huge fan of Elon Musk. I think he’s got the most incredibly forward thinking ideas about where we can go technologically. What he has done – nobody else has ever done. He has landed a rocket ship so it becomes reusable. You know what a feat that is?”

Robert Gaskill approached Freeman just over a year ago about the all-Tesla limo project now called ‘MOTEV’. He told Fast Company that the actor signed on as the sole investor with the goal of building “the largest fleet of Tesla cars in the United States.”

They now have a decent fleet of 7 Tesla Model Xs and 4 Model Ss in Los Angeles and plan to expand in New York and Atlanta.

Freeman’s connections have helped the company grow with contracts like as a shuttle service on CBS’s Madam Secretary – of which Freeman is an executive producer – and now the Oscars.

The chauffeur service, which starts at $80/hour and uses trained drivers, can be booked through an app, but don’t try it on Sunday since Gaskill says that the vehicles are completely booked for the award show.

It should get both Tesla and MOTEV some good visibility.
