Electrek morning green energy brief: President Obama’s paper on clean energy, new US transmission lines and more

Obama: The irreversible momentum of clean energy: President Barack Obama has submitted a document on the probability of the growth of clean energy. The document peer-reviewed and speaks of the many clear technological and economic benefits of clean energy relative to its peers, the fossil fuels. This isn’t PR. This is from a guy who has no more elections to win.

Utility-scale solar + storage = $92/MWh – So many strong pieces of data regarding costs of renewables have come out of this Lazard report. What I’m seeing a lot of analysts say is that all of these headlines touting costs of renewables and storage means its time for renewables to put up some serious installation volumes. If these prices are real – then the economics of them will drive massive uptake, irrelevant of government jostling.

New US transmission lines can boost wind power to 35% of US electricity – A German engineer once said their grid can get to 70% wind + solar with proper transmission lines. The Department of Energy east west HVDC power lines to greatly expand solar power usage – East Coast will power West Coast during morning, and vice versa. And here we see, wind power being pumped across the country. Want to save on storage? Want to create an industry moving electricity? Build it.

Asian customers purchase MAiA 2.1 Technology from Meyer Berger – I like reading about Meyer Berger because it gives me insight into making the machines that make solar panels. I also try to follow reports on manufacturing capacity growth for solar panels – I posted a link on this a few days ago. Following Meyer Berger has taught me about PERC cells – a current path that is pushing higher efficiency in solar cells.

Bill filed – all new construction must have solar, California – There will come a day when a structure that does not generate energy will be considered ‘historic.’ There will be a day when you have to search out and find old housing material to redo those homes – whose going to buy shingles without solar cells built-in? Why even manufacture them? There’s going to be a day when you, by default, do a cell level analysis of your energy storage system before you buy a house – because who knows what kind of bitcoin farm, battery hammering things the prior owners did.

AI machine learning services to be launched for energy storage management – The grid’s is a machine composed of millions of points pulling energy and, historically, a few points pushing. Soon – there will be millions pushing and pulling concurrently. Before – a few people at a plant could run the show, now those few people will instead manage much more complex machines that run the show along with them. All the same job, just done a little faster.
