After delivering the first few Chevy Bolt EVs two weeks ago, only a handful more units have been making their way to customers in California, but GM has now reportedly shipped the all-electric car in volume for the first time with a ‘trainload’.
Hybridcars reported today:
“Today and tomorrow they are arriving “in volume” and reportedly a trainload of Bolts sent to the San Francisco Bay Area depot in Milpitas and another in Southern California in Mira Loma are being trucked to dealers.”
It’s estimated that GM could have manufactured the Bolt EV in the low single digit thousands during the month, but it’s unlikely that the total delivered will surpass 3,000 considering the timing with the end of the year.
Nonetheless, there’s enough volume being confirmed for delivery that the GM forums and Bolt EV Facebook groups are currently buzzing with buyers receiving their delivery dates.
The automaker first planned to start production in October, but it was slightly delayed by two months.
The Bolt EV has an MSRP of $37,500 before incentives. It’s currently only shipping in California and Oregon, but GM plans to slowly start shipping to other states throughout the first half of the year – starting with other ZEV states: Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Around the same time, some units out of GM’s ~30,000 planned annual production should make their way to Canada and later in the year, it will be in Europe under the Opel Ampera-E brand.
