Electra Meccanica puts its all-electric single passenger commuter to the test, production pushed to July

Back in April, we reported on Electra Meccanica CEO Jerry Kroll announcing that the company plans to start low-volume production of its all-electric three-wheeler, the Solo, in June 2016. We are now in June and the company is pushing the start of production to July, but this week, Electra Meccanica announced that it successfully completed the first round of track tests on its production chassis.

The company made an event out of it with a hundred investors, reservation holders and dignitaries attending.

Kroll on the event:

“Today’s first track test of the Electra Meccanica Solo is the result of the incredible hard work and determination by our engineering team. We are now one step closer to bringing the first Canadian designed and built production electric vehicle (EV) to the world.”

He disclosed that during the test, the vehicle clocked a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 8 seconds and reached a top-speed of 120 km/h (74.5 mph).

Dr. Robert Tarzwell was the test driver for the event:

“This vehicle is going to make people very happy when driving it, you really feel that it has a solid presence and it’s incredibly responsive and engaging, ”

You can read the full specs below, but with a range 100 miles (160 km) at a MSRP of USD$15,000 (~CAD$20,000), the Solo could prove itself to be a popular vehicle especially after EV incentives – where they are available.

The company said that to date, it received over 20,000 commercial reservations and over 100 from individuals.
