Tesla is bringing EV education to the kindergarten level in China

Tesla attributed its early difficulties in penetrating the Chinese car market in part to misconceptions about charging electric vehicles in the country. Those misconceptions are most often due to little knowledge of electric vehicles in general. The situation is changing fast as EVs are becoming increasingly common in mainland China thanks to several government incentives and the fast growing electric scooter market.

Though it’s never moving fast enough for Tesla. The automaker is trying to address the issue in a very simple yet likely to be fairly effective way in the long run: educating children about electric vehicle technology.

‘Tesla China’ has been organizing open door days for kindergarten students to visit its service centers and learn about electric vehicles. The events highlight the differences between the technologies powering electric vehicles and gasoline-powered cars.

The events are part of Tesla’s initiative to create awareness of green transportation and develop an interest for EVs at an early age.

In a blog post about the latest event at the Beijing Yizhuang ‘Tesla Experience Center’ on its Chinese website, the company wrote:

“To accelerate changes towards sustainable energy, Tesla is committed to promote the development of electric vehicle technology and, more importantly, to create a green way for people to travel. ‘Tesla experience centers’ throughout the country will carry the functions of promoting public science and electric vehicle technology by often hosting public open day activities.”

Tesla shared a few pictures of the event in the same blog post:

The initiative is really interesting as EV education is crucial to EV adoption. Tesla could offer the same opportunity to schools around the world as it would be in line with its mission to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport.
