Tesla enthusiasts are embracing the Model S redesign [85% prefer the new fascia]

model s res

Tuesday, Tesla introduced its first significant redesign of Model S since launching the sedan in 2012. Normally, design changes are extremely polarizing, especially for adored products like the Model S, which won almost every car award out there.

But it would seem that Tesla enthusiasts are more inclined to embrace change than the average consumer. According to a poll we published earlier this week, 85% of our readers prefer the new Model S fascia over the original nosecone design.

Over 5,000 people answered the very simple question:

“Do you prefer the Model S’ new grille-less front fascia or the nosecone?”

A strong majority, 84.64%  (4,254 votes), said they prefer the new grille-less front fascia.

As I discussed when posting the poll, I personally agree. I think it’s a ‘no-brainer’ improvement as I always found the nosecone to be superfluous on the Model S.

Model S nosecone - grille-less

The fact that Tesla introduced the production version of the Model X and the new Model 3 prototype both with grille-less designs probably helped create the positive reaction Tesla’s new flagship sedan enjoyed this week.

Most Tesla enthusiast (and electrek readers) knew it was coming and already made their peace with the nosecone going away.

don;t forget that now radar unit is protected from elements. remember how when Bonnie got he MX, she posted a pic of the forums with a guess where the AP radar is? It was put behind plastic, so now snow and dirt debris falls off and AP can work more often.

The sensor is behind the metal where the Nosecone used to be, Tesla has engineered a radar that doesn’t need to be behind plasticts. Like in the Falcon Wing Doors.

I honestly don’t know. I’ve been using both alternatively.

Please come up with a magnetic attachment for those in California that get tickets when parked on he street for not having a front license plate.

    The new front looks great.

The big mistake in the “update” was the removal of the purse slot.
