Tesla Model 3: first person already in queue to reserve at the Tesla Sydney store

48 hours before the doors open on Thursday morning, Andreas Stephens is already in queue to be the first person to reserve a Model 3 at Tesla’s store in Sydney, Australia. It looks like the Sydney store is expecting a crowd as they already set up a queue line.

Over 500 people have signed up to campout at Tesla’s retail locations to be among the first to reserve a Model 3 sight unseen, but Stephens is taking it to the next level with 2 full days of camping.

Australian publication EFTM talked to Stephens:

As the owner of a Toyota Corolla Seca right now, Andreas doesn’t even have a garage – “I’ve got two years to build one”.

He credits his 19-year-old son with putting him onto the story of Tesla – the very same son who will likely be keen for a drive in Dad’s Model 3 when he’s 21 years old.

Of course, Andreas is also aware he won’t be the first person in Australia to own a Model 3 – priority in the queue will go to current owners of a Model S, but still, his queuing up to be one of the first is a story he’s keen to share with his grandkids in the future.

Stephens will be placing a $1,500 AUD refundable deposit to reserve his electric vehicle. The Model 3 is expected to start at $35,000 in the US, but with the currently weak Australian currency, the car will likely cost around $50,000 AUD. Stephens and EFTM are predicting closer to $65,000 and $70,000.

As Jon explained in his post this morning: Don’t Wait: Why you should reserve the Tesla Model 3 on Thursday, we are expecting a significant backlog of Model 3 reservations will be created in the next few days. If you want a Model 3 with a chance to get it before the end of 2018, we suggest reserving early, especially if you are in the US and are hoping to get the federal tax credit.

The Tesla Model 3 will be unveiled at Tesla’s Design Studio in Hawthorne, California, on March 31st at 8:30pm Pacific. If you want to reserve the vehicle, Tesla revealed all the reservation process details per region and here’s everything we know about the vehicle.

When you say over 500 people have signed up to camp out it sounds like you are saying they are signed up to ‘camp’ which implies sleeping overnight, which is not the case. It is more like over 500 people have signed up to reserve the car at a tesla store as many of the people in the comments have noted their arrival times as the day of the event.

Why wait unit he’s 21? He’s in Australia, he should already have a license at 19.

I think it’s a reference to the car being available only in two years

Anyhow, you can get a license at 17.
