Electric vehicles are often praised for reducing air pollution, although some have claimed otherwise despite numerous studies proving it, but electric cars also reduce noise pollution, which is exactly what this new fan-made Tesla Model S commercial is highlighting.
For years now, regulators have talked about adding rules for electric vehicles to emit more sound in order to let pedestrians hear their presence, but U.S. regulators have been delaying a ruling on the subject.
The latest report suggests that a ruling for a low-speed sound alert requirement for electric and hybrid cars will be introduced in mid-March.
In anticipation of the law, automakers have been experimenting with different solutions to the issue of sound at low-speed. Tesla CEO Elon Musk even suggested the possibility of a system that could emit a sound only in the direction of passing pedestrians instead of a constant noise. Such a solution would allow electric vehicles to keep reducing noise pollution, while keeping passerby safe (if they still pay attention of course).
A solution that would allow EVs to retain this feature of being relatively quiet is still the main goal here.

The huge majority of the noise a car makes is caused by the tires rolling over the street – by far! In fact from 10 – 15 mph upwards it doesn’t make any difference at all whether your engines runs on gas or batteries – the noise level will be the same.
You need to test drive a Tesla my friend. People have grown so accustomed to the noise and air pollution we live with in these times that we have become numb to it. If you don’t turn on the climate control or the sound system in a Tesla, you could creep up to your dog while driving it.
