Video demonstration of the new improved Summon feature of the Tesla Model S [Video]

Tesla released its latest software update (v7.1 2.12.22) for the Model S and X yesterday. You can read the full release notes here, but the main improvement is the ability to activate the Summon/self-parking feature from inside the vehicle before exiting, and we now have a video demonstrating the improved feature.

The automaker managed to remove a step in the process.

You can now park your Model S in the driveway, double-click the ‘park’ button and after exiting the vehicle, it will open the garage door and park itself in the garage without having to use the keyfob or the Tesla app.

In order to enable this feature, you need to disable the new “continuous press” requirement, which is enabled by default as a safety feature. See the release notes to learn how to disable it.

Model S owner Mark Schey tested the updated feature and posted an informative video about it. He also offers a quick overview of the new Summon customization options featured in the image above. Here’s the video:

Nice. A steady set of improvements to the remote capabilities. Well done.
