VW releases a teaser picture for its electric vehicle concept to debut at CES

Volkswagen’s Chairman of Passenger Cars Dr. Herbert Diess is scheduled to give a talk and unveil a new electric vehicle concept at the upcoming CES 2016. The company released a teaser picture (see above) for the concept and rumor has it, it could be a new electric version of VW’s flagship Type 2 minibus.

The flat-nose in the picture could be an indicator, but beyond the teaser image, VW has been rumored to be planning the release of a new electric Type 2 for quite some time now.

Diess’ keynote address will focus on “electric mobility driving the automotive market” and the future of the company’s brand. After the recent ‘Dieselgate’ scandal, the company is trying to reinvent itself and fortunately for EV enthusiasts, electric vehicles seem to be an important part of the company’s new strategy.

With a stop-sale on its diesel models, VW will need to introduce more electric powertrain options to comply with the increasingly strict fuel consumption regulations.

We should know more about the strategy after Diess’ talk, which is set for January 5 at the Cosmopolitan’s Chelsea Theater in Las Vegas.
