Electric GT officially debuts its modified Tesla Model S for its all-electric championship

Last week, we reported on Electric GT, an all-electric racing championship using only Tesla Model S sedans, unveiling its car ahead of the official debut, which happened yesterday. The company showed the modified Tesla Model S P85+ and released more details about the championship.

As we reported last week, Electric GT uses only discontinued Tesla Model S P85+, renamed ‘EDT Car V1.3’, modified for racing by EGT engineering with a stripped down interior.

They also claim to have strengthen the suspension, braking, cooling and steering as well as reducing overall weight.

We got to see the vehicle in more details at the unveiling on the waterfront in the Ibiza Marina:

The first race of the championship will begin in 2017. A season will tour seven major European circuits including Circuit de Catalunya and Nürburgring. A race weekend will consist of a 20-minute practice session and 30-minute qualifying session on the first day, followed by a 37-mile (60km) daytime race and another 37-mile race at dusk.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the powertrain of the Model S P85+, which hasn’t been modified for the championship, will hold under those race conditions.
