Tesla Model X makes it to Mexico and first Supercharger goes online

Last month, we reported on how Tesla announced its first location for a Supercharger in Mexico in the most subtle, weird, but awesome way. We now learn that the automaker brought the Supercharging station online, making it its first DC fast-charging station south of the US border, and just in time for the introduction of the Model X in Mexico.

The Supercharger station is located in the Galerias Cuernavaca, a shopping center in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos – south of Mexico City.

The station is equipped with 6 Superchargers. Additionally, Tesla has three Destination Charging locations in Mexico.

The Tesla Model X recently made it to Canada, Europe, and China, now the first all-electric Model X made it to Mexico.

The online design studio for the Model X is not yet accessible for Mexican non-reservation holders, but the Model S is directly available for purchase on Tesla’s website.

The new Model S 60 starts at ~$1,500,000 Mexican Pesos (~$79,500 US), including taxes ($68,000 before taxes), which represents a reasonable ~$2,000 markup for the vehicle imported in the country from California. The new Model S 60 starts at $66,000 before incentives in the US.

A fully equipped Model S P90D with Ludicrous mode will set you back about $3 million Mexican Pesos (~$158,800 US) with taxes.

Mexico’s car market has been growing steadily for the past few years. In 2015, it reached close to 1.2 million light vehicle sales, according to the Mexico dealers association.
